Cultivating Persistence and Leadership Development in Science Master Teachers
This 5-year project is funded through the National Science Foundation with the goal of serving the national need of preparing high-quality science teacher leaders in high-need urban and rural school districts. This project is a collaborative effort between UToledo (Drs. Natasha Johnson [PI], Kevin P. Czajkowski [Co-PI], Jonathan Bossenbroek [Co-PI], David Dueber [Evaluator], Michael Toland [Evaluator]) and Kim Zeidler-Watters at the Partner Institute for Math and Science Education Reform.
Toledo Public Schools as Community Hubs Resource Sharing Systems Design
This 1-year project is funded through the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation with the goal of progress toward developing a streamlined, web-based resource-sharing system to enhance coordination, communication, accessibility, and utilization of resources for Toledo Public Schools (TPS) Community Hub Schools. This project is a collaboration between The University of Toledo (Dr. Michael Toland [PI], Kimberlie Todd [Project Coordinator], and Dr. David Dueber) and Gayle Lake at TPS Community Hub Schools.
Project Read-DBI: Responsive and Equitable Advancement in Literacy through Data-Based Individualization
This 2-year project is funded through the Ohio Deans Compact on Exceptional Children. Project READ-DBI addresses persistent gaps in early literacy outcomes for students with or at risk for reading learning disabilities, including English Language Learners and students with co-occurring behavioral needs.
The UToledo team (Jiyung Hwang [PI], Susanna Hapgood, Michael Toland [Evaluator], David Dueber[Evaluator]) partnered with Toledo Public Schools to strengthen teacher capacity to use ongoing assessment data – curriculum-based measurement, progress monitoring, and diagnostic tools – to make systematic instructional adaptations that accelerate student growth.
Bold Beginnings for Higher Education
Bold Beginnings for Higher Education will address the need to support strategic enhancements to early childhood community college programs, courses, and field experiences. BBHE will implement “the Blueprint Model” developed by Camille Catlett and colleagues, along with an equally important focus on preparing early childhood teachers and classrooms to serve as high-quality practicum or field sites that provide college students opportunities to learn how to ensure that all young children, including those with disabilities, have opportunities to learn alongside their typically developing peers. This project is a collaboration between the University of Toledo team (Dr. Laurie Dinnebeil [PI], Dr. William McInerney, and Dr. Michael Toland) and a colleague at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Dr. Camille Catlett.
CTE Teacher Preparation and Retention
This project is funded by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce with the goal of providing preparation programs for licensure of Ohio career-technical education leaders. This project is led by Dr. Deb Heban and Dr. Michael Toland (PI) at The University of Toledo.
Compass Across Settings (CAST) for Integral School, Home, and Community Services and Improving Transition Outcomes for Students with ASD
This 4-year project is funded through the Institute for Educational Science, Special Education Research Grants Program. The goal of this project is to develop and evaluate COMPASS Across Settings (CAST) with home, community, and school services for alignment of goals and intervention strategies on student postsecondary outcomes. This project is a collaboration between colleagues at The University of Toledo (Dr. Michael Toland, Dr. David Dueber), Ball State University (Dr. Lisa Ruble [PI], Dr. William Finch, Dr. Lindsey Ogle), Indiana Institute on Disability and Community (Lisa Rubenstein), and Roanoke College (Dr. Bryan Parsons).
Optimizing Clinical Outcomes for Patients with Patellofemoral Pain Using Strength Training Rehabilitation Incorporating Power Exercises (STRIPE)
This 4-year project is funded by the Department of Defense. Its goal is to test new Strength Training Rehabilitation treatment for patients with patellofemoral pain relative to a standard of care. This is a collaboration between Dr. Neal Glaviano (PI) and Dr. Lindsey DiStefano at the University of Connecticut, Dr. David Bazett-Jones and Dr. Michael Toland at The University of Toledo, Dr. Colby Mangum at the University of Central Florida, and Dr. Michelle Boling at the University of North Florida.
Role of explicit and implicit expectations in the efficacy of musculoskeletal rehabilitation
This multi-year project is funded through the UToledo Interdisciplinary Research Initiation Award Program with the goal of developing an implicit bias instrument that measures patients' perceptions of physical therapy prior to treatment. This multi-phase project (involving content validity, item writing, cognitive interviews, expert review, psychometric testing, predictive validity, convergent/discriminant validity evidence) is a collaboration by UToledo colleagues (Drs. Andy Geers [PI], David Dueber, Christine Fox, Amanda Murray, and Michael Toland) and Dr. David Bazett-Jones at Highpoint University.
