Combined Bachelor's Masters in Economics
What are your plans after receiving your B.A. in economics? Have you considered pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Economics or a Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics in Economics? If so, here's an opportunity for eligible UToledo students from any major (see eligibility below).
You can start earning credits towards 1-year Master's degree in Economics as an undergrad.
M.A. degree in economics requires 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework. If you complete 8-9 hours of graduate-level classes as an undergraduate, you will need to complete only 21-22 additional credit hours as a graduate student to receive your master’s degree. There are many other benefits as well.
Eligibility
Must be a UToledo student in good standing, 3.0 or better and enrolled in one of the following tracks:
- Major: Economics
- Minor: Economics, Public Economics, Environmental Economics
- Certificates: Advanced Economics, Advanced Quantitative Economics, Environmental Economics, or Public Economics
To apply
Fill out the graduate application, and when asked if you are pursuing a dual degree, select "Yes-Pipeline program" and "Economics 4+1." You will NOT be charged an application fee. You will need two letters of recommendation; one has to be from an economics faculty member.
Coursework requirements
As an undergraduate student, you can enroll in up to 9 credit hours of 5000 and 6000-level economics courses. Once enrolled in these courses, you must complete all graduate-level requirements of the course and be evaluated by the same criteria as graduate students.
Double credit
Up to 9 hours may count for both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Economics.
Tuition and fees applied to these graduate credit hours will be charged at the lower, undergraduate instructional rate.
Graduate Certificate in Data Analytics in Economics
This path also requires the Graduate Capstone Project + 12 credit hours at the graduate level. Core Requirement: ECON 5810 and ECON 5820 (Econometric Models and Methods I and II).
