Judith Herb College of Arts, Social Sciences and Education

A native Ohioan, Dr. Karen Miskell began as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Toledo in August of 2025. Before that, she served as Professor and Department Chair of Music at Victor Valley College in Victorville, California for the nine years. She holds degrees from the University of Southern California (DMA, 2018), Northern Arizona University (MM, 2013), and the University of Miami (BM, 2005).

During her graduate career, she had the privilege of performing with esteemed greats such as Sir Elton John at the 2014 Grammy Awards, founding member of the King Singers, Simon Carrington, and pop artist Barry Manilow. She also performed at the 2014 World Symposium on Choral Music in Seoul, Korea, the 2014 Chinese International Choral Festival in Beijing, China and numerous regional and national conferences of the American Choral Director’s Association.

In between her BM and MM degrees, Dr. Miskell taught secondary choral music in the public schools of Las Vegas, Nevada in the Clark County School District. Dr. Miskell been an active member of many professional music education organizations including ACDA and other state specific associations while in California. Additionally, she is an accomplished accompanist, clinician/adjudicator, and vocalist.
