dorothy mackenzie price piano competition

The University of Toledo Department of Music announces dates for the second annual competition for young pianists

We invite young pianists to showcase their skills and passion for music in a dynamic and inspiring environment. Participants will have the chance to perform before esteemed judges, connect with fellow musicians and compete for prestigious awards and scholarships.

The competition is open to talented young pianists aged 12 to 17 and aims to celebrate and support the next generation of musicians by providing them with valuable performance opportunities and financial assistance to help further their musical education.

The first-place winner of the last year’s inaugural competition was Henry Shao of Sylvania, OH.  Awards were also given to Sam Eduards (second place) and Steve Xie (third place).

Details

  • Preliminary Round via submitted audition videos
  • Finalist invited to compete in person before a panel of esteemed pianists, including the Dorothy Mackenzie Price Guest Artist
  • Cash Prizes of $500, $300 and $200 for first through third place
  • First place also receives a performance opportunity in a future Dorothy Mackenzie Price Piano Series masterclass, solo recital at local venue and scholarship* from The University of Toledo Department of Music

2026 Registration Information

Feb. 15 – Deadline to submit completed application, registration fee, and preliminary round recording

Feb. 22 – Finalists announced

March 14 – Final Round in person at The University of Toledo's Center for Performing Arts

A Completed Registration Includes:

  • Completed online application form
  • Submission of pre-screening video(s)
  • Payment of $25 registration fee. (Follow Online Payment link below. Enter $25 for "Payment Amount" and "Add to Cart," then enter name of competitor and "Piano Competition" for purpose of payment.)

Completed registration for the March 14, 2026 competition is due no later than 11:59 pm, Feb. 15, 2026. Payment must be made by credit card - link below. Eligibility age as of March 14, 2026: ages 12-17

To Complete the Application Form, You Will Need:

  • Names, age, birth date and address for the participant
  • Name and contact information of current piano teacher
  • Titles/composers of repertoire submitted in pre-screening video(s)
  • Active link(s) of pre-screening video(s)

*Scholarship funds are restricted to covering tuition-related expenses while the recipient is enrolled at The University of Toledo. Scholarship funds awarded are strictly designated for tuition-related expenses such as housing, textbooks, tuition, and cannot be applied to personal expenses.
