Department of Neurosciences and Psychiatry
Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Neurosciences and Psychiatry! The mission of the Department of Neurosciences and Psychiatry (DONP) is threefold. First, we envision providing outstanding state-of-the-art clinical care. Second, we are training the next generation of clinicians and scientists. Third, we are asking and answering the largest possible questions in translational neuroscience via basic and clinical research.
Notably, our clinical and educational programs reach across the lifespan. Clinically, this includes child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Educationally, we actively teach and/or train high school, undergraduate, medical, graduate, and postgraduate learners across more than a dozen distinct educational programs. Our faculty and learners have a broad range of research interests including assessment of changes in brain structure following trauma, the study of synaptic vesicle fusion, deep phenotyping of autism spectrum disorders, finding the causes of neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as repurposing of drugs for cognitive disorders. The research laboratories employ cutting-edge neuroimaging, psychophysiology, neuromodulation, and bioinformatic techniques for research and clinical applications. Educational research includes resident wellness, improving medical student psychiatric education, and unique educational programming that has been recognized nationally.
Academic endeavors by our faculty also include developing Lifestyle Medicine training programs, serving on school, state, national and international committees and boards, including editorial review boards for grants and papers, organizing committees for scientific meetings, and various leadership positions across several service organizations. We also promote and support efforts to strengthen neuroscience education across the University and the surrounding communities in northwest Ohio.
The DONP emphasizes excellence and innovation and provides an atmosphere where faculty, learners, and staff contribute cohesively in a collegial, supportive, and dynamic environment.
Welcome to our website and we hope to share our excitement with you!
