Elective Description/Requirements: Student will receive an overview of hospital dentistry and develop an interdisciplinary approach to the study of oral and dental diseases
Length of Course: 2 weeks
Educational Course Objectives:
- Assist the residents in communicating with the patients, the patient’s family, colleagues and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of the dental patients. (EPOs: PB-1)
- Assess the medical and dental condition of patients seen in the dental service, Northwest Ohio Developmental Center, In-patient consultations and operating room cases. (EPOs: PC-3)
- Identify their current level of knowledge, and the type of information needed to reach the desired level of knowledge for patients and families. (EPOs: MK-1, MK-4)
- Define the role of the dental health care professional and the need to collaborate with others providing care for the individual patients to improve the human condition. (EPOs: SBP-1, SBP-2, SBP-5)
Professionalism: UT/COMLS students will meet or exceed the institutional standards for professionalism as stated in the current Educational Program Objectives and the current Educational Course Objectives for the Sponsoring Department

Prerequisites: Successful completion of all third-year required clerkships
