Elective Description/Requirements: This course provides a focused opportunity for the senior student to study gastroenterologic
and hepatologic diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Length of Clerkship: 4 weeks
Educational Course Objectives and Links to EPOs:
- Demonstrate an ability to discuss the differential diagnosis of common gastroenterologic/hepatologic problems such as GI bleeding, abdominal pain, diarrhea, jaundice, and hepatitis. (EPOs: MK-4, PC-1, PC-6, PC-7)
- Propose an efficient course of evaluation of the differential and interpret the results of the evaluation. (EPOs: PC-6, PC-7)
- Show sensitivity to the patient’s concerns regarding the illness and also respect for the role of the referring primary service in the patient’s care. (EPOs: IPC-1, IPC-2, IPC-3)
