Elective Description/Requirements:
Four-week ambulatory pediatric experience. Students interested in a future working with children will have the opportunity to gain experience with aspects of ambulatory care including well care, behavioral pediatrics, and acute illnesses.

Length of Clerkship:4 weeks

  1. Students will interview and examine patients presenting for routine well care along those being seen for a sick visit. (EPOs: PC-1, IPC-1)
  2. Discuss the symptoms and signs of the most common pediatric diseases seen in the ambulatory setting. (EPOs: MK-4, PC-1)
  3. Discuss the management of common pediatric diseases seen in the ambulatory setting. (EPOs: MK-6, MK-7, PC-8, SBP-1)
  4. Interpret basic laboratory and radiographic studies. (EPOs: PC-6, PC-7)
  1. Students will demonstrate communication skills to facilitate an ongoing partnership with patients, their families, other health professionals, and within the community. (EPOs: PC-4, PC-9, PB-1, IPC-1, SBP-1)
  1. The ability to demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ culture, age, gender and disabilities. (EPOs: MK-2, MK-3, PB-1, PC2)

Professionalism: UT/COM students will meet or exceed the institutional standards for professionalism as stated in the current Educational Program Objectives and the current Educational Course Objectives for the Sponsoring Department.
