Elective Description/Requirements: This clerkship is designed to expose students to a variety of pediatric urological disorders. Teaching is conducted in the outpatient clinic as well as the operating room and on inpatient rounds. Students will be exposed to common pediatric urological disorders such as hypospadias, undescended testicles, congenital disorders such as vesicoureteral reflux and UPJ obstruction.

- Explain the normal anatomy of the urinary tract as it applies to urologic disorders. (EPO: MK-1
- Describe common diseases presenting to the pediatric Urologist (EPO: MK-1)
- Demonstrate ability to judiciously use radiographic and laboratory testing in evaluation and treatment of urologic disorders. (EPOs: PC-1, PC-6)
- Demonstrate the ability to obtain a history from patients, including sensitive areas such as urinary tract infections and incontinence. (EPOs: PC-1, PC-3)
- Demonstrate a comprehensive urologic physical examination (EPO: PC-1)
- Assist in urologic diagnostic instrumentation and common urologic operations, including ability to catheterize the bladder. (EPO: PC-6)
- Discuss appropriate urologic care by the primary care physician and disorders requiring referral to a Urologist. (EPOs: IPC-2, PC-9)
- Demonstrate appropriate demeanor in the treatment of urologic disorders: Elicit a meaningful voiding, history and identifying pediatric urologic congenital disorders. (EPOs: PC-6, PB-3)
Professionalism: UT/COM students will meet or exceed the institutional standards for professionalism as stated in the current Educational Program Objectives and the current Educational Course Objectives for the Sponsoring Department.
Instructional Methods:
- Outpatient evaluation and management with guidance and review with preceptor.
- Operating room observation and instruction commensurate with knowledge and experience.
- Inpatient rounds with preceptor.
