More than 100 million Americans have high blood pressure, but only about a quarter of those individuals have their blood pressure under control. Bina Joe investigates blood pressure regulation. Her innovative research focuses on the links between high blood pressure, genetics and gut bacteria. Dr. Joe has spent nearly two decades studying and isolating the role genetics play in individuals with high blood pressure and her research has helped begin to unravel some of the potential causes of hypertension that go beyond one’s diet and exercise routine.
