Overview
Turn your non-education bachelor's degree into the tools you need to become a teacher for adolescents and young adults through the Licensure and Master's Program (LAMP) at The University of Toledo.
UToledo's one-year LAMP prepares adult learners who already have a degree to be successful Ohio educators. Students simultaneously are prepared as teachers and earn a Master of Education degree (M.Ed.). Graduates of this program are eligible for an Ohio Resident Educator license in adolescent to young adult education and intervention specialist for grades 7 to 12, or in multi-age education in a foreign language.
Teaching Areas
Students pursuing the Master of Education degree will complete coursework in one of the following teaching fields:
- English Language Arts (Grades 7-12)
- Foreign Language (Grades PK-12): Chinese, French, German, Spanish
- Mathematics (Grades 7-12)
- Science (Grades 7-12): Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, Integrated Science, Life Science, Physics
- Social Studies (Grades 7-12)
These teaching areas provide focused preparation in a specific content area while leading to eligibility for an Initial Ohio Educator license.
Students in our program observe, participate in and reflect on real-world teaching
practices in a supportive and structured environment throughout the school year. By
the time you graduate, you will have a full year of experience working with highly
qualified teachers, students and administrators within local school settings.
This program is fully accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator
Preparation (CAEP).
There are also opportunities available in UToledo's Licensure and Master's Program that will prepare you as an educator in primary or middle childhood or as an intervention specialist.
