Speeding Up Drug Discovery With AI-Driven Modeling

What once took years of lab and computational work is now on a faster track at The University of Toledo.

UToledo’s Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute is deploying new artificial intelligence technology to help researchers identify promising drug candidates faster and with greater precision than traditional methods allowed. The Institute’s AI-Driven and Structure-Based Drug Discovery Core, directed by Dr. Jasmine Liu, is using a mix of laboratory techniques, computer modeling and AI tools to identify promising compounds for the treatment of for breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers.

The work reflects the clinical and research strengths of UToledo, which launched the Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute in 2026 to advance treatments for a pressing regional and national public health challenge.
