Supplemental Instruction Job Descriptions
We currently have the following openings for Fall 2026 (Applicant Deadline - May 28):
- CHEM 1120 - Chemistry for Health Sciences
- CHEM 1240 - General Chemistry II
- CHEM 2410 - Organic Chemistry I

Responsibilities
- Attend all SI course lectures, take notes, read material and act as a model student
- Plan and facilitate three SI sessions each week
- Maintain professional communication with course instructor
- Attend all required training sessions and team meetings
- Submit accurate attendance records, time sheets and other paperwork every other week
Required Qualifications
- UToledo student (at least part-time) with at least a second semester Freshman standing
- Minimum 3.2 GPA (cumulative)
- A or A- or B+ in the desired SI course or related courses with the same content
- A desire to facilitate other students' learning
- Outgoing, personable and approachable
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with tutoring or group studying
- Past or Current SI attendee
Time Commitment
- Approximately 9-12 hours per week
- One semester commitment; 2nd semester based on evaluation, need and SI budget
Mandatory Training
- Attend training during the week before the semester begins
- Attend midterm team meeting
- Formally observed 2 times throughout the semester
- Meet with SI Coordinator regularly
Starting Wage
- All SI Leaders start out at $12.00 per hour.
