We currently have the following openings for Fall 2026 (Applicant Deadline - May 28):

  • CHEM 1120 - Chemistry for Health Sciences
  • CHEM 1240 - General Chemistry II
  • CHEM 2410 - Organic Chemistry I

Handshake

Responsibilities

  • Attend all SI course lectures, take notes, read material and act as a model student
  • Plan and facilitate three SI sessions each week
  • Maintain professional communication with course instructor
  • Attend all required training sessions and team meetings
  • Submit accurate attendance records, time sheets and other paperwork every other week

Required Qualifications

  • UToledo student (at least part-time) with at least a second semester Freshman standing
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA (cumulative)
  • A or A- or B+ in the desired SI course or related courses with the same content
  • A desire to facilitate other students' learning
  • Outgoing, personable and approachable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with tutoring or group studying
  • Past or Current SI attendee

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 9-12 hours per week
  • One semester commitment; 2nd semester based on evaluation, need and SI budget

Mandatory Training

  • Attend training during the week before the semester begins
  • Attend midterm team meeting
  • Formally observed 2 times throughout the semester
  • Meet with SI Coordinator regularly

Starting Wage

  • All SI Leaders start out at $12.00 per hour.
