Engineering Research

Program for Engineering Experience in Research (PEER)

PEER is the University of Toledo College of Engineering's gateway program for connecting pre-college students seeking research, volunteer, and internship experiences with engineering faculty. Faculty research is the college covers a wider range of topics, including aerial drones and robotics, additive manufacturing, tissue engineering, biofuel production, cyber security, and electronics. More information is available under the research pages for each department.

If you are interested in doing research to gain experience or to satisfy a school internship or practicum requirement, please complete the interest form below. If you have not already made a connection with a faculty member, we will use the information provided in the form to match you with a participating faculty member based on research interests and mutual availability. You may participate in observational and/or hands-on experiments. Your participation period may range from several days to an entire semester and can start at any point during the calendar year.

Pre-college student participant interest form

Data collected in this form is required by the University for your participation in a campus research activity.  After you complete this form, we will review your information and reach out to participating faculty to identify available opportunities in your time-frame and interest area. During the faculty matching process, you may be asked to share a copy of your resume or other academic information.  Once a match is made, we will guide you through the additional steps and paperwork needed to participate in the PEER program.

ELIGIBILITY

Any pre-college student with interest in science or engineering is eligible. Students are matched based on interest areas and availability of positions for pre-college researchers.

ELIZABETH (SKOWRONSKI) WOLAK

B.S. in Bioengineering

“This development opportunity provided me with the resources and knowledge I needed to pursue my degree with confidence.” – Elizabeth (Skowronski) Wolak

Liz spent her internship working in the Department of Bioengineering’s bioprocessing laboratory. She has since completed her B.S. in Bioengineering at UToledo in 2022. Liz is now working full-time while pursuing her M.S. in electrical engineering.

Meet Allison Launder

Maumee Valley Country Day High School student

“Gaining lab experience and general knowledge about various engineering fields allowed me to not only explore my interests, but to make an educated choice on my college major. While touring labs on college campuses, I recognized the equipment and instruments they used in first-year courses. This made me feel not only more prepared, but also confident knowing that I have prior experiences that will carry over into my freshman year course content.” – Allison Launder
