Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor’s in Social Work (B.S.W.)

The profession of social work is booming. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the employment of social workers is expected to grow 9% from 2021 to 2031, which is a faster than average growth rate than all other occupations.

Certificate in Chemical Dependency Counseling

The University of Toledo offers a certificate in chemical dependency counseling. This undergraduate certificate program helps students meet the academic requirements for licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor II or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III in the State of Ohio.

Graduate Programs

Masters in Social Work (M.S.W.)

At the University of Toledo’s Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) Program, you will learn with other students and faculty who truly share your passion for social and economic justice. We are committed to helping you develop the skills to create social change at the individual, organizational, community and societal levels.

The M.S.W program offers an advanced generalist specialization. This specialization prepares students to work with diverse clients and social systems, using strengths and empowerment models. As an advanced generalist social worker, you will improve clients’ quality of life via critical thinking and innovative use of complex assessment, interventions and evaluation. You will be skilled in working in micro, mezzo and macro settings.

Counselor Education (M.A.)

The University of Toledo offers northwest Ohio’s most popular graduate program in Counselor Education.

UToledo graduate students can receive training to become one of two types of professionals:  

  • School counselors
  • Clinical mental-health counselors

Classes are convenient for working adults, who can tailor our flexible graduate degree to their professional and research interests.

Masters in Psychiatric Nursing (M.S.N.)  

UToledo’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner programs teach you to assess, diagnose and treat the mental health needs of patients.

  • Provide therapy
  • Prescribe medications
  • Do physical and psychosocial assessments
  • Evaluate effectiveness of treatments

UToledo’s nationally ranked M.S.N. and D.N.P. programs educate outstanding advanced practitioners who often find jobs before they graduate.

We offer several routes for nurses who want to become Nurse Practitioners and sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification.

All courses in our Nurse Practitioner programs are online; labs and clinical experiences are in person.

If you already have a graduate degree in nursing and want to become a nurse practitioner, consider our part-time, online graduate certificate.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Graduate Certificate

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PM HNP) certificate is offered to individuals who have completed a graduate degree in nursing and who desire to obtain specialized knowledge to seek certification as a PM HNP, a nurse practitioner who works as a provider for psychiatric mental health settings.
