Academic Advising and Support

What is academic advising?

Academic advising is a collaboration between a student and a professional staff or faculty advisor. Its purpose is to help students:

  • Develop and reach sound academic and career development goals

  • Gather information on requirements, course offerings, graduate and career opportunities, creative projects, undergraduate research, internships, study abroad, etc.

  • Weigh alternatives while making decisions

  • Connect with campus services and activities

  • Stay on track for graduation through the selection and scheduling of appropriate courses

You can expect advisors to …

  • Provide you with accurate and relevant information

  • Address your academic interests and concerns

  • Guide and assist you through course selection and registration, major or minor exploration, career exploration and academic processes as they apply to you

The advisor for Communication Studies and Media Communication is Lisa Bollman. If you are thinking of changing your major to Communication Studies or to Media Communication, you can call 419-530-4436 or 419-530-2671 to schedule an appointment.

Students are responsible for meeting all degree requirements; students should consult with the Department Adviser to ensure progress toward degree.
