Professor Daniel Patrick Compora (MAE 1993, PhD 2000, University of Toledo) teaches a number of literature courses, including Folklore, Science Fiction & Fantasy literature, and Detective Story. He has published in the areas of Folklore, Popular Culture, and Distance Learning. He is regarded as an expert on Dog Lady Island, a local urban legend from his hometown of Monroe, Michigan, which he has researched since 1987. His most recent publications include "Undead America: The Emergence of the Modern Zombie in American Culture" and "Ghostly Attractions: The Ghostlore of Television, College Campuses and Tourism." His forthcoming works include an extensive history of Ohio literature in the Dictionary of Midwest Literature, Volume II and a book chapter on the mythicizing of Clark Kent in the television series Smallville.
