Production Bios

CAST

CHRISTINA BAKER (she/her/hers) Gertrude - Christina is a third year Theatre major with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance and a Communications minor from Oberlin, Ohio. This will be her fourth time performing with the University of Toledo, with her more notable role being Marcy Park in the production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, as well as performing and designing costumes for the Festival of New Student Work.

JORDYN BEERY (she/her) Player Queen/Fortinbras – Jordyn is a fourth year Theatre major here at the University of Toledo. Previous credits include: Miss Henderson The Jungle, Marigold The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Director The Worstest Play Ever. She has also worked on costume crew for All Quiet on the Western Front and Into the Woods. She plans on working as a director/writer in her future.

KAYLEE BRITT (she/her/hers) Hamlet #2 - Kaylee is a Senior at Toledo Early College High School, and this is her second semester as a full-time college student at the University of Toledo. Kaylee has been in The Wizard of Oz with the Toledo Rep as a part of the ensemble and wants to double major in Theatre and Communication. Kaylee plans to continue working towards becoming a well-rounded actress and dancer for her future career in the arts. 

LEONARDO HERNANDEZ (he/him/his) Hamlet #3 - Leonardo is a first-year theatre performance major from Toledo, Ohio. This is his first show at the University of Toledo.

ISA HERRERA (she/her/hers) Ophelia/Gravedigger - is a first-year double majoring in English Lit and Theater with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance from Bowling Green, Ohio. This is her first show with the department, and she is excited to continue working with everyone. 

BEN KUNEC (he/him) Rosencrantz/Guildenstern – Ben is a senior Theatre major with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance and a Media Communications major from Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Previous credits include, The Jungle, 20k Leagues Under the Sea, Year of the Living Dead, and various shows in the Festival of New Student Work.  Other credits include being an Assistant Stage Manager for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.  Ben hopes to get an internship or a job in the theatre/film or media industry this summer.

OLIVER MARCONI (he/him/his) Player King/Ghost - Oliver is a third year English Education major and Theatre minor from Olmsted Falls, OH. This is his third show here at UToledo. Previous credits include Elkshire (Mr. Churchill/Mr. Dane/Dreven) and as an actor/playwright in the 2021 Festival of New Student Work. Oliver is excited to continue his passion as a storyteller through writing and acting.

GRACE MULINIX (she/her/hers) Hamlet #1 – Grace is a senior Theatre major with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance. For the past few summers she has worked professionally as a performer at Cedar Point in various children’s shows throughout the park. This winter she will be Production Stage Managing the 2023 Festival of New Student Work at UToledo. Previous credits include Stage Manager Elkshire, Director/Costume Designer Festival of New Student Work, Worldbuilder 20k Leagues Under the Sea, Agent/Freddie/Ensemble The Jungle, and Katurian The Pillowman.

KARSON PALMER (she/her/hers) Laertes - Karson is a sophomore Theatre and English double major, from Portage Ohio. Previous acting credits for UT include : Freida (The Acolytes of Monokuma: 2022 Festival of New Student Work), and Isabelle (Elkshire). As a scenic artist Karson has painted for (Elkshire, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Hamlet), and the Lyric Repertory Theater Company, in Logan Utah. She is also very excited to be chosen as a writer in the upcoming (2023 Festival of New Student Work) this winter.

GERARDO ROSARIO NIEVES (he/him/his) Polonius/Gravedigger – Gerardo is a Sophomore Theatre major with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance at the University of Toledo. He is from Puerto Rico. He participated on three plays during The Festival of New Student Work during the Fall 2021 semester and was a part of the ensemble of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. After college he would like to act in the film industry.

TYLER TEACHOUT (he/him/his) Rosencrantz/Guildenstern - Tyler is a third year Theatre major with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance from Holland, Ohio. This will be his third time performing in the department. Previously he worked on Elkshire and different shows in the Festival of New Student Work. Tyler plans to move to Chicago to pursue acting after graduation. 

CARLOS WASHINGTON (he/him/his) Claudius- a 2021 UToledo graduate who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a concentration in Stage & Screen Performance, he's been featured in the premiere cast of the award winning All Quiet on the Western Front as well as in Annie Baker’s The Flick in the lead role of Avery Sharp. His latest work, 20k Leagues Under the Sea was written and performed by him and has gone on to win the national Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Award amongst others. Carlos is currently set to make his directorial debut in the UToledo s pring 2023 theatrical production of Blood At The Root by Dominique Morriseau.

Production Staff

HOLLY MONSOS (she/her) Producer and Costume Designer – Holly is the Professor/Chair of the Department of Theatre and Film. She first joined the UT faculty in 1991, and previously served as Chair, after which she spent 9 years as Associate Dean of the college. Prior to coming to UToledo, she spent several years as a cutter/draper in professional theatre including extensive work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, and the San Francisco Opera. Since moving to Toledo, she has designed for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Opera, Toledo Repertoire Theatre, Montana Rep, Glacity Theatre Collective and Ms. Unseen Productions in New Zealand, among others. Holly is active regionally and nationally in her professional organization, the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), having served two terms as the Vice President for Members, Sections & Chapters for that body in addition to holding several positions including Chair of the regional section, USITT/Ohio Valley. Holly also serves as the Executive Director of Glacity Theatre Collective here in Toledo.

MATT FOSS (he/him/his) Director - Matt is an Associate Professor of Theatre at UToledo and teaches acting and directing. His adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front received the Kennedy Center’s David Mark Cohen Playwriting Award and the Jeff Award (Chicago's Top Theatre Prize) for Best New Work and Best Production of the Year in 2020. He adaptation of The Jungle received the Jeff for Best Adapted Work in 2018. In 2012 his production of Six Characters at Iowa State University received the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival's National Award for Outstanding Production of a Play and Outstanding Director of a Play.

ABBY GLANVILLE (she/her/hers) Choreographer - Abby is an Academic Advisor and adjunct Dance Instructor at the University of Toledo. Previous UT choreography credits include Into the Woods, The Jungle, Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play, Year of the Living Dead, and The Festival of New Student Works.

 CHRISTOPHER M. MONTPETIT (he/him/his) Theatre Manager - Christopher is originally from Niagara Falls, NY, where he received a BA Degree in English/Theater from Niagara University.  He continued his studies at Columbia University in New York City, where he earned a MFA Degree in Theater Management.  Professionally, Mr. Montpetit has worked at such companies and institutions as Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing, The Kathryn Bache Miller Theatre, The Alma Schapiro Theatre, Artpark Theatre, ABC Television, Showtime Networks Inc., Genesee Community College Center for the Arts, SummerTide Theatre, and The University of Alabama, where he served as Assistant Professor and Director of the MFA Program in Theatre Management.  Mr. Montpetit is the author of What is Theatre? An Introduction to Theatre, published by Kendall Hunt Publishing in January 2016, with a revised edition published in August 2020.  He also serves as Associate Editor for Management for the online resource USITT Teaching Archives, a Consulting Affinity Group member with the Association of Arts Administration Educators and a reviewer for the Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society.

DANIEL THOBIAS (he/him/his) Scenic Designer – Daniel joined The University of Toledo Department of Theatre & Film faculty in 2012. He received his MFA in Scene Design from North Carolina School of the Arts, 2005. He has a wealth of experience with summer stock and festival theaters including Mount Washington Valley Theatre, Festival Stage of Winston Salem, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Opera Santa Barbara, and the Cuttingball Theater. STEPHEN SAKOWSKI (he/him/his) Lighting Designer and Production & Design Coordinator - Stephen is an Associate Professor at the University of Toledo and has been happy to collaborate on many productions since starting in the Department of Theatre & Film in 2015. He has his BFA from Otterbein University and his MFA from the University of California San Diego. His lighting design of All Quiet on the Western Front received the 2020 Jeff Award (Chicago's Top Theatre Prize) Congratulations to everyone involved with the production on a project well done!

JEFFERY “JJ” ENCK (he/him/his) Sound Designer - JJ is a senior Theatre Major with a concentration in Design & Technology. This past summer and fall, JJ worked on The SwellTones, The Celebrate Cedar Point Parade, and The Midnight Hour with Midnight Syndicate at Cedar Point. Previous UToledo Credits include: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Assistant Director & Sound Engineer), Elkshire (Sound Designer), Festival of New Student Works 2021 (Director, Playwright, and Sound Designer).

NATE WHITE (he/him/his) Technical Director – Nate joined the University of Toledo as the Technical Director in 2016.  He received his MFA in Technical Production from the University of Alabama and his BA in Design and Technical Theater from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

KELLY McBANE (she/her/hers) Costume Shop Manager – Kelly is a faculty member at UToledo. She has designed and built the costumes for many shows at the University, most recently The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. When she's not at work she can be found tending to and talking about her dogs and chickens.

NATALIE RICE (she/her/hers) Stage Manager – Natalie is a fourth year Theatre major with a concentration in Design & Technology and a Media Communications major. Previous productions include: Stage Manager Ben Hurr, Assistant Stage Manager The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Stage Manager The Flick. After graduation Natalie plans on expanding to theatres outside of the Toledo area to work as a professional Stage Manager.

HAZEL PENROSE (she/her/hers) Assistant Stage Manager - Hazel is a third year Theatre Major with a concentration in Design & Technology with a minor in Music Technology. Previous Credits include: Assistant Stage Manager Celebrate Cedar Point Spectacular Parade, Henrietta/Radolf Elkshire, Sound Board Operator The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Production Assistant Sons of Toledo. She Plans on continuing her Theatre/Writing Career in Chicago upon graduation.

ALEC SIMON (he/him/his) Assistant Stage Manager - Alec is a fourth year Theatre major with a minor in English. He recently performed as Panch in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee during the spring, and directed Elkshire in the winter. He looks forward to directing again for the Festival of New Student Works this winter.

CHARLOTTE VAUGHAN (she/her/hers) Props Master – Charlotte is from the Cleveland area, she is a fourth year majoring in Theatre with a concentration in Design and Technology with a minor in Disability Studies. Previous credits are Elkshire, Year Of Living Dead, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Flick, and The Jungle. Charlotte hopes to continue working in scenic design, props, and painting.

MADILEINE CHASE (they/she) Assistant Props Master – Madileine is a second-year student working on the two things they love, Theatre and Speech Pathology.  She worked backstage Elkshire and performed as Logianne in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee last year at UToledo. She is back in the prop shop and enjoying the challenges of their first Shakespeare production; They have to thank Charlotte, Daniel, Nate, and Matt for helping them grow past their expectations.

BRANDANEA’ DAVIS (she/her/hers) Assistant Scenic Designer – Brandanea’ is a senior at The University of Toledo from Akron, Ohio. She is majoring in Theatre with a concentration in Design and Technology. In the future, she plans on getting into producing and management in the film or theatre industry.
