The Herbert B. Schering Exchange Program and Award in German Studies

The Schering Fund was established in February 1972 to honor the late Professor Herbert B. Schering, who served The University of Toledo for 39 years. 

The money in this fund is intended:

  • To assist UT students who wish to study German language, culture, civilization, and literature;
  • To assist UT students who wish to pursue an approved internship or work experience in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland;
  • To assist UT students who are pursuing research in German-related areas, e.g., archival research, either abroad or in the United States;
  • To assist UT students who graduate with a degree in German from The University of Toledo and wish to pursue a graduate degree in German at UT;
  • To support first-year UT graduate students and continuing students in the German M.A. program,
  • To support undergraduate students enrolled in a German class above the intermediate level during the academic terms of the award year.

Eligibility Requirements for Undergraduates and Graduates

The deadline for applications is 15th of March.  Notification of awards will be made no later than 1 May.  All application materials are to be submitted to Dr. Friederike Emonds, Memorial Field House, Room 2400E.
