UToledo Family Business Center

Professional Service Providers

This is a list of regional providers that have aligned with the Center because of their experience with, and passion for working with family businesses. Most are family businesses themselves, and understand the unique dynamics that come along with that.

Here are some things to consider when choosing a provider:

  • Availability. Will the provider be available to meet with you, and when, where and how. And their willingness to take on small projects.
  • Communication. Are they speaking in jargon, or can they communicate in a clear, understandable way.
  • Experience. They wouldn’t be on this list if they didn’t have experience working with family businesses, but be sure to review if they the niche experience you need.
  • Fees. It’s ok to shop around, but be aware of comparing providers on cost only. Lowest cost doesn’t necessarily mean best value.
  • Rapport. Good chemistry ensures a better relationship. You want a provider you can be open and honest with as you will likely be discussing sensitive issues.
  • References. Ask for them.
  • Understanding. You likely want your provider to be a long-term partner – make sure they are willing to learn about your business goals and vision for the future.
