Biography

Dr. Qattawi’s research interests include metal processing:  additive manufacturing and sheet metal forming, design for manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, and Origami-inspired metal structures as well as applications to vehicles body-in-white design. Her work in engineering education focuses on understanding the effect of online and hybrid teaching styles on student’s engagement and academic performance. She is the director and the principal investigator at the Integrated Design and Manufacturing (IDM) Laboratory at the University of Toledo. Government agencies and industry have funded Dr. Qattawi’s research. She was awarded the Hellman Faculty Award in 2016 and the Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from SME in 2018.

The Integrated Design & Manufacturing Lab at The University of Toledo focuses on investigating the effect of metal forming process parameters on the produced materials and parts characteristics and features. The lab's research aspects include material characterization in the light of processing variables, manufacturing processes modeling, and machine learning to provide a sustainable and intelligent design for manufacturing solutions.
