Greek Life

Unrecognized Organizations

Some organizations that were once recognized fraternities or sororities campus have lost recognition from the university or gone dormant. Organizations that have had their recognition revoked by the institution vary for different reasons, including such things as hazing, alcohol and drug abuse, risk management violations, and failure to comply with University policies and expectations. These organizations have in almost all cases also had their charter suspended by their international organization because they were not upholding fraternal values and were engaging in risky behaviors that endangered the members and other students. Dormant organizations currently do not operate or exist on the campus of the University of Toledo; unrecognized organizations listed below that continue to operate do so without the approval and recognition from the University of Toledo. For your own well-being, we discourage you from attending any events hosted by the below organizations or from affiliating with one of these organizations. The University of Toledo does not advise nor control the actions of these groups.

These organizations may claim they can, or that they will soon become a member, but these organizations are currently not recognized and are not slated to become recognized by the university in the near future. As a result, these non-recognized groups do not enjoy the privileges offered within the Greek Community at the University of Toledo. They are unable to reserve and utilize University space; they cannot participate in Greek events, they are not covered with the necessary insurance coverage, they cannot have mixers with Sororities or function in coordination with any other Greek-letter organization.

The University of Toledo has strict guidelines and high expectations for our Greek organizations including but not limited to: Academic Integrity, GPA, philanthropic and service work, and a strict non-hazing stance. These expectations are geared to strive for betterment and excellence within the University of Toledo community. The pride that members of recognized Greek-letter organizations on campus have is one of being an integral part of what makes our campus something we can all be proud of. Unrecognized groups that continue to operate without recognition directly undermine our Student Code of Conduct, putting in jeopardy the future of Greek Life on campus.
