Dr. Sloane teaches across the curriculum with a focus on macro practice and policy. She blends her education and experience in health care social work with cultural studies and critical theory. Heather is a MEDTAPP scholar and investigates the culture of professional education and interdisciplinary collaboration. She works closely with the student-run Community Care Clinic. Her dissertation research involved medical education culture and the understanding of poverty. As a result this work has led her to a focus on the importance of empathy to cultural competence. Dr. Sloane also writes about wellness and the right to pleasure.
