Biography

Soprano Dr. Alexandria Hanhold joins serves as the voice area coordinator, and teaches applied voice, lyric diction, and vocal pedagogy and literature.

Dr. Hanhold is a graduate from The Ohio State University where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance. While at Ohio State, she additionally pursued a Graduate Interdisciplinary Specialization in Singing Health and a Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching.

Dr. Hanhold is an active and accomplished voice teacher and performer. Prior to her appointment at The University of Toledo, she served as Adjunct Professor of Voice at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio and as the voice area graduate assistant at The Ohio State University. As a performer, Dr. Hanhold has participated in multiple operas and musical theatre productions including Sondheim’s Into the Woods (Florinda), Viardot’s Cendrillon (Maguelonne), Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief (Laetitia), and Haydn’s La Canterina (Don Ettore). Most recently, she performed as Carla Silverton in the Ohio premiere of Griffin Candey’s Sweets by Kate.

Dr. Hanhold is passionate about teaching functional voice, and she specializes in cross-training in both classical and contemporary styles. Her recent dissertation investigated the integration of musical theatre vocal pedagogy, technique, and repertoire within voice programs at Ohio public universities. Her additional research interests include evidence-based vocal pedagogy, vocal health, and curriculum development.
