NASAD Accreditation

The University of Toledo is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Accreditation is a formal peer-review process that assures the quality of the education students receive. An accredited program is a quality program. Accreditation is not a ranking system. It is an assurance that a program within an institution meets established quality standards.

The University of Toledo Department of Art meets those standards.

About NASAD

"Founded in 1944, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with approximately 360 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for art and design and art/design-related disciplines and assists institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other art/design-related endeavors.

Accreditation

The Association’s main role is that of a specialized, professional accrediting agency. Accreditation is the process whereby an association or agency recognizes an institution as having met certain qualifications or standards. In NASAD, the process focuses on two principal concerns: educational quality and institutional probity.

The review of educational quality is made according to nationally recognized standards developed by the Association with the full participation of its member institutions and in consultation with various professional groups in the field of art and design.

The review of probity is made by determining whether the institution is indeed providing the educational services it says it is offering to the public, and whether its own stated operational procedures are being followed."
