Archaeology Field School

2025 Archaeology Field School -  anth 4510

The 2025 fieldschool has been postponed, with aims to run in 2026.

Dates TBD, M-Thurs 8 am - 4:30 pm

Fort Miami historical imageThe University of Toledo Archaeology Field Methods course (ANTH 4510) is a hands-on opportunity to learn how to excavate and document an archaeological site in the context of a research project.

Presently the field school plans to return to Fort Miamis, a late 18th/early 19th century British fort in Maumee, OH, which served as a military outpost during the Battle of Fallen Timbers and again in the War of 1812.

Fort Miami ditch imageIn the 2nd year of this project, excavations will investigate several subsurface features outside the fort proper in spaces adjacent to the park. The aim is to better understand what activities outside of the fort can be identified.

Over the six-week course (SSII), students will learn the methods archaeologists use to identify, map, excavate, and interpret archaeological artifacts and deposits.

If you are interested in enrolling in the course, UT students can enroll via their myUtoledo access.

Non-UToledo students can register as a guest student.
