Raising the Bar Fund

The University of Toledo College of Law and the University of Toledo Foundation offer the "Raising the Bar" stipend to College of Law students in their final semester who plan on sitting for the state bar exam in the first testing round after graduation. This stipend is offered to help offset basic living expenses such as housing, food, utilities and transportation during the 10-week period before taking the bar exam.

Students in their final semester can submit an application form and video testimonial for consideration. Winning applications acknowledge and allow their video testimonial to be used for University of Toledo Foundation communications. Application winners will receive a stipend of $5000 to help cover basic living expenses during the time between graduation and sitting for the bar exam.

Students must meet the below parameters to be eligible for the stipend:

  • Students in good standing with the College of Law.
  • Committed to taking the state bar exam in the first testing round after graduation (with preference to students already registered to take the bar exam).
  • Indicates a perceived need to work to cover basic living expenses such as housing, food, utilities and transportation during the 10 week period before taking the bar exam.
  • Demonstrated financial need, such as eligibility for financial aid.

A committee formed by The University of Toledo Foundation will select stipend awardees based on the strength of video submissions. Any video submission not chosen for a stipend will be returned to the student and will not be available for use by The University of Toledo.
