150 Years of Bates Football
This brisk documentary produced by the Bates College Department of Athletics and Physical Education in September 2025 features footage of the inaugural Glass Bowl Game from our University Archives AudioVisual collection. The game took place on December 7, 1946 before 12,000 spectators, the largest crowd to assemble in the stadium at that time. The Rockets won 21 to 12. Game footage appears at 03:18.
100 Years, 100 Glimpses
The Sight Center of Northwest Ohio, whose historical records make up part of the Canaday Center's Regional Disability History Archive, celebrated their centennial in 2023. Part of that celebration included a series of short videos that take the viewer through the history of this important agency. A full documentary on the Sight Center premieres on WGTE Public Media in October 2025.
M.C.O. : A History of Teaching and Healing
The University of Toledo merged with the Medical University of Ohio in 2006, a major event in both institutions' histories. With the merger came nearly 50 years' worth of historical records from the medical school, which was used in 2014's 50th anniversary special, produced by WGTE Public Media's Darren LaShelle and Marc A. Hathaway.
Grain : The Harold Anderson Story
In 2012, WGTE Public Media produced a three-part documentary series about the growth of The Andersons, an agricultural company founded in Toledo. The series included photographs and documents from The Andersons, Inc. Records, preserved at the Canaday Center. The Canaday Center hosted a viewing party in 2018, with members of the company and the Anderson family present.
Owens-Illinois, 100 Years : A Legacy of Invention, Innovation, and Integrity
This 2004 Toledo Story, produced by Darren LaShelle and Greg Tye for WGTE Public Media, tells the story of Michael Owens glass bottle machine and how Owens-Illinois revolutionized the glass industry. The documentary included materials from Owens-Illinois, Inc. Company Records. A couple of years later, in 2006, the Canaday Center shared that story in an exhibit, Time in a Bottle.
