Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency Program

Welcome to Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Toledo.   Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is a division of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and is fully accredited.  Following completion of our program, we believe our graduates demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to be excellent physiatrists.  These goals are achieved through clinical exposure, bedside teaching, formal lectures, journal club, research, and independent study.  We also offer education in some of the most advanced technical skills in the field, including ultrasound guided injection therapies, and spinal interventional procedures.

The residents currently spend all three years of residency at the University of Toledo Medical Center which also houses the Coghlin Rehabilitation Center.  The Rehab Center is a 22 bed unit with the anticipation of additional beds in the near future.  Together with the faculty, the Rehab Center has earned CARF accreditation and has a great local and regional reputation.

In addition to TBI and SCI, the faculty also specializes in other services including: General rehabilitation and debility, electrodiagnosis, amputation and prosthetics with a comprehensive amputation clinic, stroke and spasticity, musculoskeletal medicine and ultrasound training, spine and interventional procedures.  Members of our faculty additionally have involvement with the University of Toledo Pain Management Fellowship.  We believe the diversity of the faculty leads to the development of a well-rounded resident experience.
