Elective Description: This is a 4-week elective in interventional radiology. The goal of the rotation is to provide students with exposure to the various procedures and instruments of interventional radiology. Students will be expected to have an understanding of the basic procedures, their indications, their contraindications, and alternative care options. Students are expected to take part in the initial work up and follow-up care of patients. Students are expected to observe and participate in interventional radiology procedures as well as participate on inpatient rounding while on-service.
Length of Clerkship: 4 weeks
Educational Course Objectives and Links to EPOs:
- Identify common interventional radiology procedures, including their contraindications, limitations and risks. (EPOs: MK-7, SBP-1, SBP-2, SBP-3, SBP-4, SBP-5, PC-5)
- Discuss clinical interventional radiology cases which provide clinical, radiologic, and pathologic correlations on various disease processes. (EPOs: MK-1, MK-2, MK-3, MK-4, MK-5, MK-6, MK-7, MK-8)
- Incorporate patient specific variables into ordering, performing, and interpreting appropriate interventional radiology procedures. (EPOs: MK-1, MK-4, MK-7, PBL-2, PC-6, PC-7, PC-8, PC-9)
- Communicate effectively with patients and clinicians when reporting imaging results, procedure details, or consulting on imaging/procedure appropriateness. (EPOs: IPC-2, IPC-3, PBL-3)

Prerequisites: Diagnostic Radiology (RADI705) . Prior approval is required. Preference is given to students interested in Interventional Radiology.
