2026 Regional Science Day at UToledo

Information for Parents

We’re here to help you and your student enjoy Regional Science Day at The University of Toledo! Below are some tips and recommendations, as well as some helpful links to keep in mind. 

  • This year’s Regional Science Day at UToledo will be Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Lancelot Thompson Student Union Auditorium, located on UToledo's Main Campus.
  • Complimentary parking is available in Area 13 from 7:30am-3pm for Regional Science Day participants. 
    Parking permits are required to park in other areas. Please utilize the ParkMobile App or visit ParkUToledo.com to purchase a daily permit if parking in a location other than Area 13. Students can be dropped off with their projects at the Student Union entrance located off of "the loop". 
  • Regional Science Day at UToledo is open to students in grades 5-12 from Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Williams and Wood counties. Student projects that receive a superior rating have the opportunity to advance to State Science Day.

  • Registration for Regional Science Day at UToledo is $30 per student and ends Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 5 p.m.. Participants can register by visiting https://projectboard.world/oas.

Parents (and Teachers):
Please carefully review the list below to see what is allowed as well as what is prohibited for student projects:

Allowed items:

  • A binder or folder with photos, drawings or other paper materials related to their project
  • A lab notebook used in class or at home to document trials and observations
  • Notecards to assist during the oral presentation

 

Prohibited items:

Biological materials (living, dead, or preserved) other than those commercially available. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Living organisms, including plants
  • Taxidermy specimens or parts
  • Preserved vertebrate or invertebrate animals
  • Human or animal food
  • Human/animal parts or body fluids (for example, blood, urine)

All chemicals including water (water in a water bottle to drink is permitted). Absolutely no liquids can be utilized in the Project Display

All other hazardous substances or devices included but not limited to:

  • Soil, sand, rock, cement and/or waste samples
  • Poisons
  • Drugs
  • Firearms, weapons, ammunition, reloading devices
  • Granules or powders
  • Grease/oil and sublimating solids such as dry ice
  • Sharp items (for example, syringes, needles, pipettes, knives)
  • Glass
  • Flames and highly flammable materials
  • Batteries with open-top cells or wet cells or battery packs over 100 watt-hour capacity
  • Drones or any flight-capable apparatus unless the propulsion power source removed
  • Inadequately insulated apparatus capable of producing dangerous temperatures are not permitted
  • Any apparatus with belts, pulleys, chains, or moving parts with tension or pinch points that are not appropriately shielded

Items that may have contained or been in contact with hazardous substances (Exception: Item may be permitted if professionally cleaned and documentation for such cleaning is available, and is approved by Display & Safety)

Any display items that are deemed distracting including but not limited to:

  • Sounds
  • Lights
  • Odors

 

Students should not do a live demonstration of their project. The presentation should be paper and oral based with supplemental photos, graphs and drawings.


Event Day Schedule:

March 14, 2026     

Regional Science Day at the University of Toledo
Lancelot Thompson Student Union Auditorium (updated 03.06.2026)

  • 8-9 a.m.: Registration for students and judges and set-up of projects
  • 9 a.m.-Noon: Judging (no parents or visitors are permitted in the display area at this time)
  • Noon-1 p.m.: Student lunch (on your own); projects on display for public viewing 
  • 1 p.m. - Awards Ceremony (approximately 1 hour) 

Project Judging Information

A team of two judges will judge each project following Ohio Academy of Science standards. If each judge grants a total score within any one rating category (Superior, Excellent, Good or Satisfactory), that specific rating (Superior, Excellent, Good or Satisfactory) will be granted to the student and no rejudging is permitted. Rejudging is automatic and is permissible only if all three of the following conditions apply:

a. the judges' final ratings are in different categories,
b. the average of the judges' scores is in the lower category, and
c. if the judges differ in their total points by more than five points.


Summary of Parent Responsibilities

    • Complete all necessary registration papers, signing where required at appropriate time, usually before experimentation begins. Registration is totally online.
    • View main Regional Science Day website periodically for updates.
    • Make certain deadlines are met. Completed online registration and Project submission are due no later than Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 5 p.m.
