Many of the presentations align effectively with Ohio’s required Financial Literacy Standards for high school students.

Presentation Descriptions:

Preparing To Pay for College (45-90 min): Ideal for high school classrooms and youth organizations. This presentation provides students with a comprehensive overview of financial options and strategies to fund their college education. From exploring scholarships and grants to understanding student loans within their financial aid award and private loans, tuition assistance, and more! Students will gain the knowledge and resources needed to make informed decisions about financing their education.

Overview of Services (15/30 min): Ideal for UToledo Courses and often combined with the Budgeting Basics presentation. A brief overview of the range of services offered by the Financial Wellness Center at UToledo. From personalized financial counseling to workshops and online resources, students will learn how to access support tailored to their financial needs and goals.

Budgeting Basics (30-60 min): Mastering the fundamentals of budgeting is crucial for students to effectively manage their finances during college and beyond. This presentation covers key budgeting concepts, such as tracking expenses, setting spending limits, and prioritizing financial goals, empowering students to take control of their money.

Financial Responsibility and Decision Making (30-60 min): Explore the principles of financial responsibility and decision-making to cultivate healthy money habits. Students will learn how to evaluate financial choices, make informed decisions, and navigate common financial challenges with confidence.

Planning And Money Management (30-60 min): Learn essential strategies for effective money management and long-term financial planning. From creating a budget to setting savings goals and managing debt, students will gain practical skills to build a solid financial foundation for their future.

Importance of Being an Informed Consumer (30-60 min):  Empower students to become savvy consumers by understanding their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace. This presentation covers topics such as consumer protection laws, avoiding scams, and making informed purchasing decisions, equipping students with the knowledge to navigate the consumer landscape wisely.

Investing (30-60 min):  Explore the basics of investing and the potential benefits of building an investment portfolio. Students will learn about different investment options, risk and return considerations, key investing terms, and strategies for growing wealth over time through smart investing decisions.

Credit And Debit (30-60 min):  Understand the importance of responsible credit and debit card usage for building and maintaining a healthy financial profile. This presentation covers credit scores, managing credit card debt, and using debit cards effectively, empowering students to make informed choices about their use of credit and debit products.

Risk Management (30-60 min): Learn strategies for identifying, assessing, and managing financial risks to safeguard against unexpected events and protect financial well-being. From insurance coverage to emergency savings, students will gain insights into mitigating financial risks and preparing for the unexpected.

Debt Management (30-60 min): Develop practical strategies for managing and reducing debt responsibly. Whether it's student loans, credit card debt, or other financial obligations, students will learn effective debt repayment strategies and tools to achieve financial freedom.

Custom Presentation/ Workshop (30-90 mins): Tailor a presentation or workshop to address specific financial topics or challenges relevant to your students or organization. Whether it's exploring investment strategies, saving for a car, or navigating financial transitions, our team will collaborate with you to create a tailored session that addresses the specific needs and interests of your audience.

You have the option to combine topics from above or request a presentation to cover other financial wellness-related topics. Please provide details for your request in the “Any other comments‚ special request or information” box when completing the presentation request form. Please be as detailed as possible and allow a minimum of a two-week lead time. The lead time will enable us to confirm and design your presentation. 

    • Event Participation: If you would like a UToledo Financial Wellness professional to participate in your event in addition to other activities, please select this option in the presentation request form. Also, provide full details of the event in the “Any other comments‚ special request or information” section.
    • Presentations are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please give as much advance notice as possible to allow for customization and accommodate high demand. A minimum of three weeks' notice is preferred. A mediated classroom or a computer/projector set-up will be useful for our presentation.
