A Dose of Discovery: Pop-Up Classroom

Calling all high school educators:

Save yourself from extra lesson planning by requesting a pop-up classroom experience!

A Dose of Discovery is a one hour, pre-made lesson plan that will expose your high school students to the exciting world of drug discovery and design, cosmetic science, and pharmacy!  Our pop-up classroom can accommodate 40 students per class period and features hands-on activities and discussion prompts.  Students from The University of Toledo (plus or minus a faculty member, if requested) would travel to your school and facilitate this experience.  This service is 100% free of charge, and we can travel up to 2 hours from our university.

What’s included within the pop-up classroom?

  1. An Introduction to Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Plus Education Requirements and Career Options)
  2. A Brief Overview of Common Drugs and How They’re Made (i.e., from Advil to Sunscreen)
  3. Compounding Activity: Make Your Own Topical Ointment
    • Includes a mortar & pestle, scale, ingredients, and worksheet materials
  4. Discussion Questions
  5. This experience is best suited for high school sophomores through seniors within science-based classrooms: chemistry, biology, etc. We are able to adapt to various learning styles (example: adding additional calculation requirements for AP coursework, etc.).

Request Your Pop-Up Classroom

Make your request. We will reply within 5-7 business days, and a 30-day advance notice is recommended so that we can adequeately prepare your session. Thank you for your interest!
