UToledo Band Program

UToledo Drum Major Camp
June 17-20, 2024

The UToledo Band Program is excited announce the return of our High School Drum Major camp this summer on the UToledo main campus , June 17-20.  The camp is designed with a dedication to strong fundamentals, guiding students toward excellence in developing their own unique style compatible with their home programs. The result is growth in individual creativity, identity, and diversity. The program enables us to train strong teachers, conductors, leaders, and even capable assistant band directors. Coupling the power of positive attitudes and high energy with values-based leadership principles is an unmatched recipe for success.

The 4-day camp is intended for local high school students entering grades 9-12, with multiple sessions running each day, 9am-4pm.  Session topics will include:

    • Conducting with or without some type of baton
    • With or without use of mace or signal baton
    • All conducting taught by professional university conductors
    • Instruction at all levels of conducting and showmanship
    • Fundamentals of drill design
    • Squad drills with signals and commands
    • Daily individual evaluation of fundamentals
    • Leadership and motivational techniques
    • Individual help with score study

Participation fee will include a provided lunch each day.  We ask that the band director register their participating student(s) by completing the online form.  Once we receive this initial registration, we will:

    • confirm receipt and send the required health/safety forms to the student via email, copying the director on all correspondence.
