Faculty Senate Resolution

Whereas, Article 7, Section 7.2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement states that the Administration will seek input from the Faculty Senate on the reorganization of colleges and departments;

Whereas, the Disability Studies Program—similar to academic departments—takes on the responsibility of overseeing/offering the Bachelor of Arts degree in Disability Studies;

Whereas, the “department” designation will serve to raise the profile and more appropriately reflect the status of this first-of-its-kind, cutting-edge bachelor’s degree;

Whereas, this proposal has already met with the approval of the affected faculty members;

Whereas, the Executive Committee of Faculty Senate, at the request of the Program Director, has reviewed the proposal to give “Department” status to the Disabilities Studies Program;

Therefore, be it resolved, while the input provided by Faculty Senate can take many forms, in this particular case the Faculty Senate of The University of Toledo on this 11th day of April 2017, endorses the process used to facilitate this change in status from program to department and supports the decision
