Graduate or Professional Student

Scholarships are a great way to reduce your college costs. You can earn scholarships for a host of reasons (your program of study or your undergraduate achievements) and from a variety of sources (UToledo, your credit union, etc).

To maximize your scholarships, you have to do two things:

  • Research scholarship opportunities
  • Apply

Our detailed scholarship page tells you more about:

  • Types of scholarships
  • How to find them
  • How to apply

I’m ready to start my scholarship search

Most fellowships and grad assistantships are NOT considered scholarships or financial aid. They are taken into account when determining financial aid. But they are administered by your college and will not appear in your financial aid package.

Timeline

  • October: Scholarship applications open.
  • December: FAFSA opens.
  • February-March: Deadline for most scholarship applications. NOTE: Deadlines vary. Doublecheck the dates in the scholarship database.
  • April: Financial aid offers are posted to myUT.
  • June 1: Donor scholarships are typically awarded by June 1.

Meet Quatez Scott

Ph.D. candidate, educational theory and social foundations, Cincinnati

“I was initially just going to pay for school and go part time. But UToledo launched a new diversity ambassador fellowship, and I was awarded a fellowship. The Dean’s Scholars and Fellows program put me in a position to pay much less for school, thus being able to focus more on my academics. I’m now in a real position to complete my Ph.D. in less than four years.”
