Office of Student Financial Aid

Grants

Federal and state grants are awarded based on financial need. They do not have to be paid back.

How do I get a grant?

You must file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to see if you are eligible for federal and state grants. If you qualify for a grant, it will appear in your financial aid package.

TYPES OF GRANTS

Federal Pell Grant

Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduates with financial need who are working on their first bachelor's degree. Award amounts vary based on need, enrollment and other factors.

Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG)

Ohio College Opportunity Grants are awarded to undergraduate Ohio residents with financial need who are working on their first bachelor's degree.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

If you are eligible for the Pell Grant and demonstrate high financial need, you also may be eligible for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Funds are limited for this program. The earlier you submit your FAFSA, the better.

Federal Teach Grant

There's a critical need for highly qualified teachers in high-need fields at low-income schools. The federal TEACH Grant program (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) tries to meet that need.

TEACH Grant recipients must fulfill a service obligation to receive the grant.

  • Become a full-time, highly qualified teacher in a high-need field.
  • Teach in a low-income school for four years within eight years of completing your degree.
