State Authorization

The University of Toledo (UToledo) must comply with a state's regulations before any educational activity can occur within that state. Those regulations determine whether UToledo may offer you a place in a course or program.  The range of educational activities regulated includes offering 100% online courses and programs to online and/or campus-based courses that include activities such as internships, externships, co-ops, field experiences, student teaching, and clinical placements. 

UToledo participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)Ohio became a SARA state in March 2015. The University of Toledo became a SARA institution in August 2015. This allows students from NC-SARA approved states to enroll in:

  • Online degree programs, certificates, and endorsements that include internships, externships, co-ops, field experiences, student teaching, and clinical placements, and
  • Campus-based courses with out-of-state internships, externships, co-ops, field experiences, student teaching, and clinical placements.

Online Course and Programs

The University of Toledo's online courses and programs are available to students in all SARA states. If the programs include internships, field experiences, student teaching, and/or clinical placements, please check with the Program Director if you reside or plan to be educated in California. The following programs include internships, field experiences, student teaching, and/or clinical placements: Early Childhood Education - Fast-Track (Degree Completion, Non-Licensure)

Campus-Based Courses

The University of Toledo's campus-based programs that require or offer internships, externships, co-ops, field experiences, student teaching, or clinical placements as part of the program is available to students in all SARA states.

If you reside or plan to be educated in California, please check with the Program Director to be sure that there is not a restriction in this non-SARA state.

Relocation

A student needs to contact the program director to discuss authorization and licensure eligibility requirements, prior to relocating during the course of a program to another state, as it may impact the student’s ability to remain in the program, meet the state licensure requirements, and/or continue to receive financial aid funding.
