Admission For International Students

Applicants must apply through the Slate UToledo Application system.

An applicant may apply and begin studies during the fall or spring semester. 

Applications for admission are processed until the beginning of August for fall and the beginning of January for spring. However, it is highly recommended to apply to the program as early as possible to ensure processing in time for the start of the semester.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Please Note: It is important that you use the same name and spelling in all forms, documents, and correspondences, because all materials for applicants are filed alphabetically under the family name (surname) as indicated by the applicant on the application form. The name on the documents must be the same as your name as it appears in your passport. Any changes or variation in names on an academic record need to be carefully explained by a cover letter and accompanied by a copy of the identification page of your passport.   

 

Degree

  • An earned bachelor degree.

Grade-Point Average (GPA)

  • Regular Admission: GPA ≥ 3.0 (on 4.0 scale) required
  • International students cannot be admitted provisionally. We will not accept international applicants with less than a 3.0 GPA.

Foundation Courses

  • The following college-level foundation courses or equivalent are required for admission to the M.S.O.H. program: Biological science (e.g., biology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, etc.), general and organic chemistry, physics, college-level math, social sciences.
  • Equivalent credentials may be considered: (1) work experience based on applicability and duration; and, (2) applicable certifications such as CIH and CSP.
  • Applicants lacking one or more of these foundation courses may be considered for "regular admission with conditions" or provisional admission by the program. If admission is granted, students must complete all undergraduate foundation courses, which do not count towards the required 40 credit hours, prior to degree completion and typically within the first 12 credit hours following matriculation.

Official Transcripts

  • All international students must request that their transcripts be evaluated from a NACES member agency and have them emailed to the grad school at graduateonlineapplication@utoledo.edu. We do not accept transcripts emailed directly from the applicant.
  • We can only accept evaluated transcripts from NACES members (EX:  WES).
  • All transcripts must be translated into English and evaluated onto a 4.0 scale.  
  • Official transcripts from all institutions where any undergraduate or other courses, including any graduate degrees, must be uploaded into SLATE.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

  • The GRE is no longer required.

English Proficiency    

  • An English proficiency score from either TOEFL (80 or higher) or IELTS (6.5 or higher) or DUOLINGO (105 or higher) must be submitted. No other English proficiency scores are accepted by the program. 
    • NOTE:  Scores will not be accepted if they are more than two years old.
  • English test exemptions are available for the countries in the following list:
    • Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon (Requires receipt of a university degree from an Anglophone university ie: Unviersity of Buea), Canada (all provinces except Quebec), Fiji, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Liberia, Malta, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales), Zambia, Zimbabwe.
  • Foreign medical school graduates who have the ECFMG certificate can waive the TOEFL/IELTS/DUOLINGO requirement.

Please note - Test scores for TOEFL/IELTSDUOLINGO cannot be older than 2 years from the first day of the term the student begins their program. In the event test scores are considered invalid and cancelled by ETS, The University of Toledo reserves the right to require submission of new test scores. Please contact the College of Graduate Studies if you have questions regarding this.

Letters of Recommendation

  • Three letters of recommendation are required - two of these three letters MUST be from someone having a graduate degree OR one of the two may be from someone with CIH or similar certification. The credentials of the writer must be included in the recommendation letter. 
  • Two letters required for a Graduate Certificate.

Resume

  • A current resume can be uploaded online.

Personal Statement

  • A personal statement indicating why the applicant wants to pursue the M.S.O.H. program or a Graduate Certificate can be uploaded online.
