Financial Aid for Entering Students
Welcome to Toledo Law! Below is an outline of the financial aid process. We've also included details about next steps and frequently asked questions.
Checklist
Complete the following items before Orientation and before you register for classes. Some requests may require 2-3 weeks of processing time, so we encourage you to start early.
- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Accept Direct Unsubsidized Loan in myUT
- Apply for a Direct Grad PLUS Loan
- Master Promissory Note(s)
- Graduate Entrance Counseling
- E-Refund and Profile Setup - You may authorize and electronic refund method for the direct deposit of your financial aid loan refund through myUT > Law > My Accounts > E-Refund and Profile Setup.
- Title IV Consent - The Title IV Consent allows students who receive federal loans to authorize these loans to pay for optional fees, including the legal services fee, bar prep fee, green fund, and parking permit. Without this authorization, federal aid may not be used to pay for these fees. If optional fees are not paid in a timely fashion then late fees may be assessed. You can submit or change your authorization in myUT > Law > My Financial Aid > Title IV Consent. You can also use the portal to enroll/change/waive student health insurance and waive the legal services fee and the student green fund fee.
- FERPA Consent - A Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release is needed in order for UToledo's Treasurer and Financial Aid offices to release financial information to anyone other than you, including your parents, family members, and/or partner. You must complete the FERPA consent in myUT > Law > My Financial Aid > FERPA Consent. Remember to name the parties to whom you wish the information to be made available.
FAQ
When do I register for classes?
The Office of Admissions will provide entering first-year law students with a class
schedule. Students may register for their courses upon receipt of their course schedule.
When is my bill due?
Bills are due at the time of course registration. Financial aid must be authorized
for a sufficient amount to cover semester charges at the time of registration. Any
balance remaining after authorized aid is due by the invoice date. Refer to the UToledo Treasurer's Office Important Dates for more information.
How much do I owe?
You may determine an estimated bill for the semester by viewing tuition and fees. After course registration, you may view bills on the myUT portal to determine how much, if any, is due after authorized financial aid.
When do I receive my financial aid?
Provided that a FAFSA and all required documentation has been completed, financial
aid will disburse on the first day of the semester. If financial aid is less than
the billed amount, students will be expected to pay the difference at the time of
registration. If financial aid is greater than the billed amount, students can expect
to receive a refund of the excess financial aid funds once classes begin.
How will I receive my refund?
In order to ensure a prompt refund, you are encouraged to complete your E-Refund and
Profile Setup via the myUT Law tab by clicking "E-Refund and Profile Setup" under "My Accounts." If you do not
authorize an E-Refund method, a check will be mailed on the first day of the semester.
I have rent due in January, can I use my financial aid?
Excess financial aid refunds will not be available until classes begin. You should
make other arrangements to pay rent and living expenses prior to disbursement. The
University of Toledo does not provide an "early release" or an "advance" on your loan
funds.
How do I activate my UTAD account and University email address?
Review University instructions for how to activate your UTAD account. You should monitor your UToledo email address as the primary means of communication
with the University.
Can I access my student information online?
The myUT portal is a personalized account that allows you to use many of the University's online
resources, including course registration, financial aid and billing information, UToledo
email account, and much more. You may view information specific to the College of
Law under the "Law" tab.
