Collaborative for Children with Special Needs: Grant Application
The mission of the Collaborative for Children with Special Needs (CCSN) is to develop outstanding research, education, and service programs that support children with special needs, their families, and their communities. The Collaborative serves as an open forum and virtual community, connecting researchers across the region to foster idea-sharing, collaboration, and the advancement of pediatric research at UTCOM.
The intent is to support pilot studies or as a bridge opportunity for viable ongoing, high-quality investigations that have a high likelihood for extramural support. Funding investigators agree to become members of the Collaborative.
The Collaborative is now seeking applications for its 2025 awards of:
- Two (2) $5,000.00 awards for medical student.
- Two (2) $5,000.00 awards for pediatric resident.
- One (1) $15,000.00 award for COMLS faculty, medical students, Pediatric residents, and COMLS graduate students
Application requirements:
- Type of award requested (see paragraph above)
- Study personnel (Primary Investigator-PI and faculty sponsor). Medical student, pediatric resident, or graduate student projects must include Faculty Sponsor
- Study title, background, specific aim, methods and other relevant information (one page)
- Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval/oversight for applicable human subject research (please attach)
- PI cv or bio sketch (one page)
- A one-page budget and justifications. Other funding sources

The submission deadline was Monday, Nov. 3, 2025.
Review of the applications will be conducted by the CCSN Review Committee and begins on Monday, Nov. 10, 2025. Selection is completed, and awardees notified by Monday, Dec. 15, 2025.
Expectations for the Grant Recipient:
Provide short quarterly written updates on research to the CCSN contact: (jennifer.lamley@utoledo.edu) and a final update by Monday, Nov. 2, 2026.
