Divisions: Emergency Medicine
The Division of Emergency Medicine is committed to delivering high-quality, timely, and family-centered emergency care for infants, children, and adolescents. Serving as a regional referral resource for northwest Ohio and surrounding communities, the division provides comprehensive emergency services for a wide spectrum of conditions, from minor illnesses and injuries to complex, life-threatening emergencies.
The division is staffed by board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and specialized support teams who are trained to meet the unique physiologic, developmental, and emotional needs of pediatric patients. Care is delivered in a child-focused environment designed to reduce stress and enhance comfort, with immediate access to pediatric subspecialty consultation, advanced diagnostic imaging, and critical care resources. The division maintains close clinical and academic integration with ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital and the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences to ensure seamless coordination of care and access to tertiary services.
Education and training are central to the division’s mission. Medical students and residents are supported through hands-on clinical experiences and structured educational curricula in pediatric emergency medicine, with emphasis on clinical excellence, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration. Residents actively participate in the evaluation, stabilization, and resuscitation of critically ill or injured children. Through the management of common pediatric emergency presentations across all age groups, they develop a logical and efficient approach to the assessment and treatment of acute illnesses and injuries in the emergency department setting.
