Divisions: General Pediatrics

The Division of General Pediatrics serves as the foundation for child health education, clinical care, and community engagement. Faculty in the division provide comprehensive primary care to infants, children, and adolescents while also addressing preventive health, developmental concerns, and common acute and chronic conditions. The division plays a central role in training medical students and residents, emphasizing evidence-based practice, patient-centered communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Through a strong partnership between the University of Toledo and ProMedica, the division integrates academic medicine with community-based care, ensuring broad access to high‑quality, family‑centered care across diverse clinical settings. Our faculty are deeply committed to advocacy, community engagement, preventive care, and addressing social determinants of health, allowing us to deliver holistic, family-centered care. The division strives to advance the well-being of children and families at both individual and population levels.
Faculty within the division have been actively involved in advancing pediatric care through quality improvement initiatives, community outreach programs, and scholarly work focused on child health and health equity. Ongoing efforts include enhancing preventive care delivery, improving vaccination rates, and expanding access to care for underserved populations.
Medical students and residents rotating through the Division of General Pediatrics gain valuable hands-on experience in the outpatient setting. Learners develop core clinical skills in pediatric assessment, preventive care, and management of common childhood illnesses. The rotation emphasizes continuity of care, communication with patients and families, and application of evidence-based medicine. Trainees also benefit from exposure to interdisciplinary teamwork and community-focused care models.
Our goal is to create a supportive and collaborative environment where families feel heard and empowered, and where learners are inspired to become thoughtful, skilled, and compassionate pediatric providers.
