Divisions: Hospital Medicine
The Division of Hospital Medicine at ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based inpatient care for infants, children, and adolescents. Serving as a core component of pediatric services in northwest Ohio, the division manages a broad range of acute and chronic conditions requiring hospitalization while maintaining a safe, supportive, and family-centered care environment.
The division is staffed by pediatric hospitalists, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members with expertise in the care of hospitalized children. Common conditions managed include respiratory illnesses, infectious diseases, dehydration, neonatal and general pediatric conditions, and medically complex patients requiring coordinated inpatient care. The hospital medicine team works closely with pediatric subspecialists, surgical services, and ancillary services to ensure comprehensive and seamless care delivery.
A central focus of the division is care coordination and the safe transition of patients across settings. Emphasis is placed on clear communication with families and primary care providers at admission, throughout hospitalization, and at discharge. The division prioritizes patient safety, quality improvement, and adherence to best clinical practices to optimize outcomes and reduce length of stay and avoidable readmissions.
The division maintains a strong commitment to education and training, providing supervised inpatient learning experiences for medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals. Educational efforts emphasize clinical reasoning, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the delivery of high-value, patient-centered care.
Scholarly and quality improvement initiatives within the division center on enhancing inpatient care delivery and improving patient outcomes. Key areas of focus include clinical pathway development, patient safety, healthcare utilization, and family-centered models of care. Through collaborative, data-driven improvement efforts, the Division of Hospital Medicine advances high-quality inpatient care for children and their families.
