Divisions: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation provides comprehensive, family-centered care for infants, children, and adolescents with developmental, neurologic, and orthopedic conditions. Care is delivered through an interdisciplinary model that integrates physical, occupational, and speech therapies across outpatient clinics, hospital-based programs, and community settings, with the goal of improving functional mobility, independence, and quality of life.
Rehabilitation begins with a thorough, individualized evaluation of each child’s functional abilities and overall health, conducted in close collaboration with families and referring providers. This assessment guides discussion at the initial visit and supports the development of a customized plan of care designed to strengthen skills and maximize participation in daily activities. The division emphasizes continuity of care, supporting transitions from inpatient rehabilitation to home, outpatient therapy, and school re-entry.
Care is provided by a multidisciplinary pediatric rehabilitation team that includes a pediatric physiatrist board-certified in pediatrics and physical medicine and rehabilitation, rehabilitation nursing staff, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, child life and education specialists, and social services. The division also maintains a strong commitment to education by supporting clinical training for medical students and pediatric residents through exposure to team-based, patient- and family-centered rehabilitation care.
