Elective Description/Requirements: The student will perform histories and physical exams on inpatients and outpatients, participate in daily hospital rounds, lab and microscope use and interpretation. The student will observe bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.

Length of Clerkship: 4 weeks

  1. Interview and examine patients with the most common hematologic and oncologic diseases. EPOs: PC-2, PC-3 
  2. Recognize the symptoms and signs of common hematologic and oncologic diseases. EPOs: MK-4 
  3. Describe the indications and establish the diagnostic significance of tests used in the recognition and management of hematologic and oncologic diseases. EPOs: PC-7 
  4. Synthesize the clinical and laboratory information and create a pertinent problem list. EPOs: PC-8 
  5. Analyze the clinical and laboratory data and arrive at a reasonable diagnostic hypothesis. EPOs: PC-8 
  6. Outline plans for the management and treatment of the most common hematologic and oncologic diseases. EPOs: PC-8
