The semester-long program focuses on contemporary issues in medical administration and hospital management, in addition to the organizational structure of hospitals and other distributors of medical care.
The AIM elective consists of participation in varied leadership experiences, facilitated discussion, and reflection assignments. This elective is limited to 2 students per semester, particularly those in the MD/MBA dual degree program.
Participants will engage in three 3-hour blocks under the guidance of their preceptor from select UTMC/UTP administrators that may include the UTMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), UTMC Chief Financial Officer (CFO), UTMC Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), UTMC Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and UTP Chief Operating Officer (COO). One of the 3-hour blocks must be spent with their preceptor and the remaining three blocks with other UTMC/UTP administrators (see chart below) selected in consultation with their preceptor. The topics covered in these experiences will be at the discretion of the administrator.
If possible, the experience will include the attendance at a UTMC Senior Leadership Meeting/CEO Cabinet Meeting, Operations Leadership Team Meeting, Nursing Leadership Team Meeting, and/or Ambulatory Administrative Team Meeting.
