Elective Description/ Requirements:
The primary goal is to expand the student’s fund of knowledge in electrocardiography.
This elective will also give the student an opportunity to investigate a particular
topic in some depth and present his/her findings to the cardiology staff at a house
staff/student conference.
Length of Clerkship: 4 weeks
Educational Course Objectives and Links to EPOs:
- Describe the more common cardiac diagnoses identified using electrocardiography. (EPOs: MK-4, PC-6, PC-7)
- Present an in-depth discussion of a topic in cardiology. (EPOs: PC-6)
- Develop a thoughtful, systematic approach to the interpretation of the electrocardiogram. (EPOs: PC-6)
- Correlate electrocardiographic findings with clinical syndromes. (EPOs: PC-6)
- Identify different types of noninvasive/invasive diagnostic cardiac imaging with a review of indications for testing. (EPOs: PC-6, PC-7)
Professionalism: Students will meet or exceed the institutional standards for professionalism as stated in the current Educational Program Objectives and the current Educational Course Objectives for the Sponsoring Department.

Special Requirements: Students will have weekend responsibilities and MUST be present for the final three days of this elective – no exceptions. There is NO night call.
