Elective Description/ Requirements:
Clinical and operating room experiences for students are structured to provide exposure to a wide range of orthopaedic conditions including trauma, hand surgery, joint replacement, sports medicine, orthopaedic oncology, pediatric orthopaedics, and spine surgery.  The rotation is based in the hospital-based orthopaedic clinic, the operating room, and the inpatient hospital. This elective is structured to students’ requests as availability allows.  An ambulatory experience is available for those students not particularly interested in the operating room experience and is best suited for those students with an interest in primary care.  For those students interested in the operating room, the student is expected to function as a first or second assistant in most cases. Fourth year students who have already completed a rotation in their third year will be challenged with additional responsibilities in the clinic, operating room, and inpatient setting and taught a further layer of content to build upon their previous experiences.
