Ohio National Guard Scholarship

Subject to funding available from the Ohio General Assembly, the Ohio National Guard Scholarship program provides 100% tuition to Army and Air Guard members attending a two- or four- year public college or university for up to (12) full-time quarters or eight (8) full-time semesters. An equivalent amount that is the average state university tuition charge can be applied toward the costs at a private, proprietary institution.

  • Participants must commit to and/or complete a six-year enlistment in the Ohio Guard. New enlistees must complete basic training and obtain a military job skill to qualify for a scholarship. Waivers are available for those who have a delay of 90 days or more between enlistment and basic training or basic training and their AIT/AFSC training. Also, initial applicants who are prior service enlistees and can show evidence of at least 3 years of Active Duty service in a branch of the U.S. Armed Forces may use the program with a 3 year enlistment in the Ohio National Guard. They must send a DD214 and a notarized 3 year waiver form along with their application. Prior Service participants are only eligible for six (6) quarters or four (4) semesters of scholarship assistance.

  • Scholarship program recipients must maintain good attendance at their unit drills; excessive absenteeism is cause for discharge from the Ohio National Guard. In such cases, Ohio law provides for recoupment of a pro-rated amount of the tuition paid plus interest.

  • It is the responsibility of the National Guard student to complete all the necessary scholarship paperwork with their respective unit. After the initial application for the ONG scholarship has been made, all future applications may be done online at https://ongsp.ohio.gov

  • Before applying for the scholarship, you must create an account. This account will go under review. This review may take time it is recommended to create an account in advance. Visit the ONGSP document for step-by-step instructions on how to create an account. There is no longer a deadline for the scholarship. You may now apply until the deadline to drop/add classes without penalty. Your unit will still need to approve your ONGSP, apply in advance to prevent any issues. With the new system, you can apply for multiple semesters at once. You will be emailed 30 days prior to the start of the semester to confirm the application.
